What We Collect & Why
Account Information
What:
Email, display name, avatar, account type (artist or listener)
Why:
To create your account and let you log in
How long:
Until you delete your account (then 30 days)

Edit in settings anytime, delete account to remove
Music You Upload (Artists)
What:
MP3 files, cover art, promotional videos
Why:
So listeners can discover and stream your music
Who owns it:
YOU. Forever. We never claim ownership.
Your control:
Delete songs anytime, download all your content, take your files with you
Your Activity
What:
Songs saved, artists followed, listen history, video views
Why:
To build your library, show artists their stats, improve recommendations
Who sees it:
Artists see their own stats (total listens/views). Your specific listening habits are private.
Your control:
Download your complete history anytime
What We DON'T Collect:
- Your location (unless you choose to add it to your profile)
- Your browsing history on other sites
- Your contacts or address book
- Demographic data (unless you voluntarily add it)
- Any data from third-party cookies
How We Use Your Data
The basics:
- Run the platform: Store your music, process logins, maintain your library
- Pay the artists: Use aggregated and anonymized listening data to calculate earnings and distribute payments to artists fairly
- Artist analytics: Show artists how many people listened to their songs
- Improve the service: Fix bugs, understand what features people use
- Communication: Send essential emails (signup confirmation, password resets, unusual login attempts, account deletion)
What we DON'T do:
- ❌ Sell or rent your data to anyone
- ❌ Share your data with advertisers
- ❌ Send marketing emails (we think they're annoying)
- ❌ Track you across other websites
- ❌ Train AI models on your music without permission
Who Sees Your Data
Service Providers
We use trusted services to run Turntbl:
- Supabase: Database and authentication (they have their own privacy policy)
- Vercel: Website hosting
These services only see data necessary to provide their service. They can't use your data for their own purposes.
Other Users
Public information visible to others:
- Your display name and avatar
- Artists you follow (visible on your profile)
- For artists: your bio, genres, social links, uploaded music
Private information (never shared): Your email, listening history, saved songs
Legal Requests
We'll only share your data if legally required (court order, subpoena, etc.). If possible, we'll notify you first unless prohibited by law.
Your Data, Your Control
Download Everything
You can download all your data at any time from your account settings. This includes:
For Artists:
- All your music files (MP3s, cover art, videos)
- Complete analytics (every listen, view, follower)
- Follower data (with their consent - we don't give out emails without permission)
- Links to find your fans on other platforms
For Listeners:
- Complete library (all saved songs)
- Artists you follow
- Full listening history
- Artist social links so you can follow them elsewhere
Delete Your Account
You can delete your account anytime from settings. Here's what happens:
- Immediately: Your account is deactivated and hidden from others
- Within 30 days: All your data is permanently deleted from our servers
- For artists: Your uploaded music is deleted (so download first if you want to keep it!)
- Analytics: Historical stats become anonymized (so artists don't lose their counts)
Age Requirements
Turntbl is designed for users 13 years and older. If you're under 13, please don't create an account.
If you're 13-17, we recommend getting parental consent before signing up. Parents: email us at privacy@getturntbl.com with any questions.
If we discover an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll delete it immediately.
International Users & Your Rights
Turntbl is available worldwide. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights:
European Union (GDPR)
- Right to access: See what data we have about you
- Right to correct: Fix inaccurate information
- Right to delete: Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to export: Download your data in a portable format
- Right to object: Stop certain types of data processing
- Right to complain: Contact your data protection authority
California (CCPA)
- Right to know: What personal info we collect and how we use it
- Right to delete: Request deletion of your personal info
- Right to opt-out: We don't sell data, so nothing to opt out of
- Right to non-discrimination: Same service whether you exercise rights or not
How to exercise these rights: Email privacy@getturntbl.com with your request. We'll respond within 30 days.
How We Protect Your Data
- Encryption: Your password is hashed (never stored as plain text)
- HTTPS: All data transmitted over secure connections
- Access control: Only authorized systems can access your data
- Regular backups: So we can restore your data if something goes wrong
- Monitoring: We watch for suspicious activity and unauthorized access
No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.
Cookies & Tracking
We use minimal cookies and tracking:
Essential Cookies
- Session token: Keeps you logged in (stored in browser localStorage)
- Player state: Remembers what you were listening to
What We DON'T Use
- ❌ Third-party advertising cookies
- ❌ Social media tracking pixels
- ❌ Cross-site tracking
- ❌ Google Analytics (we removed it for privacy)
Our analytics come from our own database - we track song listens and video views to show artists their stats, but we don't share this with third parties.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this privacy policy, we'll:
- Update the "Last Updated" date below
- Send you an email notification
- For major changes: require you to review and accept the new policy
